I had been looking forward to my swim in the Antarctic waters. Deception Island was the place to make this happen. Deception is an enormous volcano, but one side as eroded away and ships can now sail right into it (it is roughly 8 miles across within it. Unfortunately, the winds and seas were incredibly rough within Deception so we could not go ashore. From our ship, we could see the remains of an old whalers station and the grim reminders that many of these beautiful animals had been killed in the past and are still be killed by several nations today.
